This two pice homage to Walter Benjamin, was part of the expo remembering the 76th anniversary of the German Jewish philosopher. The suitcase as a migrant device was reinterpreted by students from four different schools, traveling through Berlin, Bordeaux, Madrid and finally to Portbou's international train station.
I worked with two 35x35 iron plates and an acrylic matrix for embossing. I got that creepy fuzzy effect using aquatint and brush etching (Lavis), and a bit of experimentation with different grains of rosin, as well as application methods. I really like the contrast generated by the thin, defined lines of the second plate.
